Jazz On Edge
the reason:
Jazz On Edge is dedicated to presenting the amazing range of music we know as jazz to an appreciative Central Florida audience, and giving creative local and nationally-known musicians a place to perform their own music, without boundaries.
Jazz On Edge is about opportunity, for artists as well as listeners. For our 2008 show, the Claire Courchene project played their first live gig together; the Eastside Combo hadn't played their own music onstage in three years. 2008 was also the premiere Orlando appearance of Brian Groder: he returned in 2010 for the chance to jam with the likes of local greats Per and Tamara Danielsson. Jazz On Edge 2010 was the first Central Florida appearance of the Tiptons Sax Quartet – in fact, it was the first jazz show presented at the Garden Theatre, and the only time internationally renowned pianist Edward Simon, a resident of nearby Orange City, had performed in the Orlando area, with his family in the audience.
The caliber of performers who have already graced the Jazz On Edge stage is extraordinary, and we feel very lucky to have had them perform under our banner.
New opportunities, new venues and amazing musicians are in the future for Jazz On Edge. Stay with us!
Jazz On Edge is produced by Orlando writer Joseph Hayes and Burry Man Productions. Not a professional promoter, Hayes created Jazz On Edge as a way to give great live jazz and original compositions a home in Orlando.
Jazz On Edge
the shows:
November 13, 2010: House Concert
Our first, invitation-only event, featuring music by The Cook Trio, readings by Belinda Hulin and Summer Rodman, and a live webcast on Facebook, MySpace and Livestream.
February 6, 2010: Volume 2
Jazz On Edge moves from a restaurant back room to the 299-seat Garden Theatre in Winter Garden, FL, with a all-star festival featuring pianist Edward Simon, The Tiptons Sax Quartet, a pre-show concert by the Lakeview MS Jazz Band and a post-show jam featuring Brian Groder and Doug Mathews.
August 23, 2008: Volume 1
A wet night after a week of tropical storm weather (thank you, Fay), yet Brian Groder, the Eastside Combo and Claire Courchene packed Taste Restaurant, bringing 85 people on a muggy summer night in Orlando to experience musicians they were unfamiliar with, playing music they'd never heard before. Amazing performances from all, and an amazing audience.
