Jazz On Edge
rule #1: play your own damn music

"Jazz is freedom. You think about that." —Thelonius Monk

Ellington. Gillespie. Brubeck. Miles. Ella.

Jazz isn't 'lite' or 'smooth' ... and it definitely ain't 'easy'. Jazz was once the popular music of America. Now it's what you hear while waiting for appetizers or riding the elevator. We've heard "there's no place to play your own tunes" too many times. So now there's Jazz On Edge, creative musicians performing their own music, without boundaries.

"Jazz is there & gone. It happens. You have to be present for it. That simple." — Keith Jarrett

Jazz musicians find themselves in the role of entertainers instead of creators, "background music" instead of up-front innovation. Jazz On Edge gives jazz audiences the opportunity to hear original work by local and national musicians. It will shake up what you know about music and words, showcasing new and exciting music that will highlight jazz for what it truly is ... a heartfelt act of creativity.

"Jazz is a loose confederation of individual heroic quests."
— Josh Jackson, WBGO

Jazz On Edge is produced by Orlando writer Joseph Hayes and Burry Man Productions. An award-winning playwright, Joseph has performed with Brian Groder at the Jazz Gallery, NYC; Digital Media Arts Center, Orlando; and the Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smyrna Beach; with Cornelius Eady at the Atlantic Center; and with David Amram at Stardust, and Chapters, Orlando.

"Jazz is not background music. You must concentrate upon it in order to get the most of it." — Horace Silver
